Director of the Human Rights Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr Turki bin Abdullah al-Mahmoud participated Wednesday in a session on introduction to international human rights relating to religion and belief during “Conference From Religious Freedom to Religious Responsibility (Building Communities of Advocacy and Action)”.
The conference is organised by the Doha International Center for Interfaith Dialogue in partnership with the Multi-Faith Neighbours Network in the United States of America. In a speech during the session, HE al-Mahmoud stressed that Qatar regards the dialogue of religions and civilisations as an indispensable mechanism for building bridges of communication between societies and people to achieve peace and stability.
He explained that Qatar is known today as a strong advocate of interfaith dialogue, intercultural co-operation and peacebuilding, and a world leader in advancing it, thanks to the Qatar National Vision 2030 which promotes respect for cultures and religions as well as the importance of dialogue to build bridges between people. He pointed out that Qatar has become home to a large number of people of different faiths and religions from more than 100 different nationalities and religions, adding that the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 constituted a convergence of different people under the umbrella of security, peace and coexistence.
