In March 2011, after years of divisive UN debates over calls to ban speech deemed religiously offensive, the international community found common ground around a consensus resolution on countering religious intolerance, discrimination, and violence.

It is a great honor for me to be here at the start of the Doha Istanbul Process meeting, being hosted by the Qatar Ministry of Foreign Affairs in collaboration with the DICID.The 11th Doha International Center for Interfaith Dialogue (DICID) opened on Tuesday with a focus on youth as important players in promoting interfaith dialogue and understanding. Being held under the theme "Youth and their role in enhancing the value of dialogue", the forum will run until March 27.
Young people are the life blood of nations and our collective futures depend on them. Unlike speculation circulating in the last century about the decline of the role of religion, there has been a fresh wave of young people taking a keen interest in religions in the new millennium .
