HH the Emir Patronizes Opening of US-Islamic World Forum

Doha, June 09 (QNA)
Monday June 09, 2014

HH Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani patronized on Monday morning the opening of US-Islamic World Forum at Ritz Carlton Hotel.

Addressing the opening session of the forum, HE the Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al-Thani welcomed the participants and said that the world, undoubtedly, is going through a crucial period that requires vigilance to cope with the developments and global and regional challenges, particularly those related to peace and security in more than one area in the world.

HE the Prime Minister and Interior Minister said to face these challenges seriously, we must establish the principle of dialogue and justice and support the joint action, adding a dialogue shouldn't be directed only to discard differences and converge views, but it should be a sublime image of constructive cooperation in the face of incurable problems around the world, such as dangers that threat peace and security, failure to achieve the Millennium Development Goals, pollution problems, water shortages, desertification, poverty, and other issues.

In this context, HE Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al-Thani said that US-Islamic World relations shouldn't be limited on common interests, but partnership in humanity should also be upheld and strengthened to remove tensions and contradictions for a world of peace, security and stability and for the good of all humanity.

There is no doubt that the global and regional developments during the past few years have proven the truth of visions and ideas advocated by this forum since its beginning, which was not limited to debate, but also formed important rules and effective solutions for many regional and global issues, HE said.

HE the Prime Minister and Interior Minister stressed that Islam is a religion calls for peaceful coexistence with all human beings anywhere in the world and puts for that an accurate standard to ensure coexistence as described in the Holy Qur'an, and it holds the entire humanity the duty and responsibility of protecting human being, ensuring his security and stability and ensuring all his rights.
HE the Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al-Thani said the fact that cannot be neglected or ignored is that there is a cooperation on many levels, political and economic, between the Islamic world and the United States, pointing out that this is due to multiple aspects of relations between the two sides through which we can contribute together in building the desired world peace.

Regarding the achievement of Arab-Israeli peace, HE said that it is one of the pillars of the strategic relations with the United States, warning that intransigent policies of the Israeli government by continuing the expansion of settlement operations and repeating attempts to attack Al-Aqsa Mosque as well as providing partial solutions that are not suitable to achieve the desired peace process have led to the suspension and the failure of peace negotiations in which the US exerted appreciated efforts.

HE added that the suspension of negotiation shouldn't frustrate us, noting that the issue requires from the international community, especially the United States, to redouble efforts until peace is achieved in accordance with a just settlement based on the terms that previously agreed on in accordance with the two-state solution adopted by the international community.

On the other hand, HE the Prime Minister and Interior Minister emphasized that the Syrian crisis poses a real threat to the unity of Syria and on the security and stability of the entire region, noting that the matter requires concerted efforts from the international community to stop the bloodshed and the displacement of Syrians and to achieve the legitimate aspirations of them.

This crisis, in both its political and humanitarian sides, reveals the inability of the international community in finding a political solution so far, so it is incumbent on the international community, especially the Security Council, to act urgently and declare a decision of cease-fire for the security of the Syrian people and the stability of the entire region, HE said.

In conclusion, HE the Prime Minister and Interior Minister expressed his belief that the high level of the participants in the US-Islamic World Forum will enrich the discussion by views and conclusions that are needed to achieve the goals and the common interests, wishing them success in their deliberations and discussions in the forum and a pleasant stay in Qatar.
The opening was attended by a number of Their Excellencies the Ministers and heads of diplomatic missions accredited to the State of Qatar and guests of the forum.
