Twelfth Interfaith Dialogue to open in Doha tomorrow

Scholars, academics and clerics will discuss various issues under the theme, “Religion and its Role in Spiritual and Intellectual Security” at the 12th edition of the Doha Conference on Interfaith Dialogue, opening on Tuesday.


Religious experts and researchers from Qatar and around the world will be attending the two-day conference organized by Doha International Centre for Interfaith Dialogue, DICID.


According to the Qatar News Agency, QNA, the plenary session on the first day will offer insights into “Religion and its Role in Spiritual and Intellectual Security in the Light of Religious Doctrines”.


During the session, the gathering will probe three sub-themes: Essential relationship between the physical and intellectual concepts of security, Protection of individuals' rights and religious and intellectual freedom in society, and Religion as the main source of moral values.


The second plenary session will discuss the topic “Destabilization of Moral and Intellectual Security”. There will be three simultaneous sessions with the sub-themes: Media's negative role in shaping moral and intellectual principles and values, Social media and destabilization of intellectual security, and Negative influence of radical clergy and political leadership on youth.


The third plenary session will discuss the topic, “Protecting Youth from Intellectual and Moral Violation and Cultural Alienation”. There will be three simultaneous sessions with the sub-themes: Role of family and educational institutions in establishing intellectually and spiritually peaceful generation, Reinforcement of competent and professional agencies for determining and presenting religious, media, intellectual and cultural values, and Effective response to all manifestations of extremism and its tackling and isolation from society.
Finally, there will be a panel discussion on the topic, “Strategies for Protecting Spiritual and Intellectual Freedom and Security: Future Expectations”.


The DICID was set up in June 2010 by Emiri Decree No. 20 of 2010. The centre promotes dialogue between religions, peaceful coexistence among adherents of religions, and the activation of religious values to address the problems and issues of concern to humanity.
