The importance of the Doha Forum continues year after year, especially in its ongoing edition which discusses stability, development and refugees as one of the world's top issues, said HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Sheikha Alia Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani.

Speaking to Qatar News Agency (QNA), HE the Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations said that the world is undergoing complex crises that led to a new wave of asylum, in which the refugees suffer many problems and social and economic difficulties, pointing out that economic and social aspects associated with the crises must be tackled to eliminate this vicious cycle of crises, violence and killing.

Her Excellency stressed that the speech of HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani before the opening of the 17th Doha Forum today highlighted clearly and boldly many important issues, including the issue of asylum and the global refugee crisis, particularly the Palestinian refugee issue.

Sheikha Alia pointed out that HH the Emir noted the importance of tackling this crisis by finding a just and peaceful solution to the Palestinian cause and underlined its implications for the situation of Palestinian refugees.

Her Excellency added that His Highness touched on the situation in Syria and the suffering of the brotherly Syrian people over the past six years, just because they demanded basic principles that are essential to life such as living with dignity and justice and basic human rights principles, but they were surprised that the response is violence and murder by a vicious regime that does not know or abide by international laws and covenants that guarantee human dignity and fundamental rights.

HE the Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations pointed out that the speech of HH the Emir also underscored the need to find a solution to the Syrian crisis, "a solution that will do justice to this people who have been subjected to injustice over the past six years." She said that Qatar has been a donor country and that is evident in all humanitarian fields in terms of its response to the situation of refugees in the world or to the situations in which States were subject to conflict or natural disasters.

Her Excellency noted that Qatar is one of the first countries to move on a global scale to provide humanitarian support, either bilaterally or multilaterally, and through the United Nations as well.

She pointed out that HH the Emir's speech also shed light on the importance of combating terrorism and extremism, stressing that this issue cannot be tackled in security and military terms, even if necessary, but its root causes of exclusion, marginalization, social injustice, and the spread of corruption must be addressed.

Sheikha Alia stressed that addressing these phenomena and causes would create the right climate for people to breathe and settle.
She stressed that Qatar is not only playing the role of mediator in resolving conflicts, but it always provides development assistance quickly after the end of conflicts so that countries restart development and create the right atmosphere for building and stability.

Concluding her statement to QNA, Sheikha Alia Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani said that the Doha Forum presents a positive climate for important discussions and dialogues every year. It comes up with recommendations which the participants work on and continue to implement on the ground.
