Awni Bahnam: Participation in Doha summit more than expected
Senior consultant of the south summit of the G77 + China Awni Bahnam said that the preparatory meetings of the summit due on June 15-16 were statisfying as all parties showed they were for the realising the goals of the summit although some of these issues tend to be difficult. "This reflects the comprehension existing between the member states of the G 77 + China in addition to their commitment and determination to deal with problems and issues facing them", he told Qatarinfo.net. Banham further said that the sought reforms in the United Nations will be in the heart of discussions during the summit, mainly that this organization was initially established in order to promote peace, support developing countries to reduce poverty, hunger and unbalance that could not benefit the whole world. Replying on a question about the role of the state of Qatar accordingly, he said that the G 77 member states were all for Doha hosting and presiding this summit thanks to the wise leadership that has placed the country among the most important countries in the international arena. The hosting of the summit in Doha is also a reflection of the role played by Qatar not only in the region, but in the international level, Awad stated, while voicing his thanks and gratitude to the country.
