H.E. Mr. Jean Ping, President of the fifty-ninth session of the United Nations General Assembly, UNGA, expressed his complete satisfaction with second south summit's results, which was held in Doha from 15 - 16 June 2005, particularly, because it coincided with a time in which the world faces very serious challenges, and the circumstances are changing in both United Nations and World Trade Organization, noting that the Group 77 and China was successful in reaching a shared vision, and the voices in this group are very important.

About Qatar's proposal, which was declared by H.H Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al-Thani, Emir of the State of Qatar, Mr. Jean Ping told Qatar's Foreign Information Agency that previously the talk was about "North Helps South," and now Emir of Qatar has set a new example for the South-South cooperation, this initiative materializes a tangible step for the cooperation among countries in the south.

On the question of the summit importance to Qatar, relating to its bid for a non-permanent seat in the UN Security Council, Mr. Jean Ping said "I am sure that Qatar will have a huge support in this concern, because of the important role that Qatar plays not in the region or among development countries only, but in the world also, and Doha hosting for the most important world conferences in the past few years is the best example for that".

Mr. Jean Ping delivered a speech in the opening session of the summit, in which he underlined that the summit stresses on the Group 77 & China commitment for boosting the consolidation among countries of the south and developing the cooperation among each other, especially all circumstances seem suitable to achieve the development and responding the needs of peoples of south countries.

President of the United Nations General Assembly added that the global nature of this group is one of the key assets to activate the dialogue and coordination for fighting poverty and backwardness, the organization mission is to protect next generations from destructions of wars and facilitating social and economical progress through the international cooperation.

The current circumstances are suitable to reform UN organization, especially after the results concluded from the second south summit in Doha, which with no doubt set up a new concept of South-South cooperation and South-North cooperation, he added.
