Al-Rumeihi: Qatar proposals focus on poverty reducing
 

Assistant foreign minister for follow-up affairs H.E Mohammed bin Abdullah Al-rumaihi, who is also the head of the national organizing committee of the G77 + China Second South Summit said it will be a major event.

"The summit due on June 15-16 June 2005 will show again Qatar's capabilities in hosting such major events to which officials pay an important attention on top of them is the Emir His Highness sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani", he said.

Al-Rumeihin told Qatgarinfo.net (the foreign Information Agency of the State of Qatar) that Doha is now considered among the leaders in hosting and organizing conferences.

As per the suggestions Qatar will submit to the summit, he said it would insist on ways of dealing with poverty, hunger and natural disasters in the countries of the south in addition to economic, agricultural, industrial, health and education domains.

On his expectations of the results of the summit, Assistant foreign minister for follow-up affairs said the second south summit for the G77 and china will come out with Doha Communiqué as well as topics tabled on agenda, noting that the Doha Communiqué will be political and economic statement, that will express a number of demands, recommendations and hopes to be addressed countries and the international organizations in order to enhance and promote political, economic and trade cooperation among them.

Al-Rumeihi also underlined the importance of the group of 77 + China as UN organ that works in the field of politics and diplomacy as it has a strong impact on the decisions of the UN General Assembly.

The Doha summit will also discuss the issues relating to South-South cooperation in the context of recent developments on multilateral arena as well as globalization, cooperation in technology and the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) set by world leaders during their United Nations Summit in 2000.
